Updates are in order of days posted

Original Post January 3, 2011
I got a can of crescent rolls out of the refrigerator and was stopped in my tracks to see a black piece of tape across the seam. I was stunned. Is this the way they piece the labels together at the Pillsbury factory? or is something more sinister amiss…
It looks like the tape is under the other seams, so I’m guessing this was done at the factory.
Before you ask why we didn’t see it sooner… well, because at a glance and next to and among other cans it’s not noticeable.
Here’s a picture of the tape from all views of the can.

I put the suspicious taped can back in the refrigerator and got out another can. I gave it a good look over and prepared/baked the crescent rolls like normal.
I’m going to contact Pillsbury and see if they have an opinion on it. I’ll update this post when/if they reply.
You’re welcome to leave a comment of your thoughts about this or tell me your own experiences with strange packaging like this.

Update January 4, 2011
I’m happy to report that Pillsbury replied today with a pleasant apologetic email.
I was right, The black tape indicates where 2 wrappers meet. The can got past quality control.
They are sending me an adjustment for the rolls. I’m not sure what that is, except I’m guessing it’ll be a coupon or something like that. I think that’s really nice of them to do that. I’ll post another update when I get the adjustment and let you know what it is. It’ll probably be a few weeks…
I’m glad nothing negative is amiss with the crescent rolls. I feel so much better about that.
I’m impressed and appreciative of Pillsbury friendliness and courtesy about this odd situation.
Thank you Pillsbury!

Update January 16, 2011
I heard back from Pillsbury yesterday.
They sent me 2 really handy coupons and a pleasant letter.

I’ve always enjoyed Pillsbury’s products and it makes them even more special knowing they give great customer care.
Thank you Pillsbury! I appreciate your taking care of this matter for me!

I like a happy ending.

I think the way to judge a company is how they handle a complaint…which in this case was well.
