This post was inspired by my friend Ellen who has a blog called ‘Mad Woman Dancing’. It’s about her property that she’s developing into a place to live. She’s trying to recycle or re-use everything she can, such as old building materials. She made a post titled ‘Pixie Plantation’ with an update on the wonderful progress she’s making.
She asked us readers of her blog the question:
“What about you? Do you like to use old things? Do you recycle? What have you made out of something discarded?”
At our home, the most recent items that were re-used were made into gear to protect our universe. One of my Grandson’s favorite things to do is make things to play with. His last creation tickled us. We love his imagination and ingenuity.

With cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls and tape our Grandson made a robot suit and a weapon. He fought battles and was victorious over evil aliens and monsters that tried to invade our home & land. Thank goodness for our little Cardboard Hero Robot because we didn’t know we even had aliens & monsters trying to invade our home & land. lol

Wishing you all creative fun with your young ones!
This is so cool! My kids used to do the same thing. I would bring home boxes from the print shop I worked at. One time they were making “pod racers” from Star Wars. They had a bunch of plastic bottle caps for controls. If you throw a handful of brads into the mix, the knobs will turn!

Thanks so much for sharing your sweet memory with me, It makes me smile just thinking of the giggles and fun. I like the idea of bottles and brads for knobs. Homemade Pod racers sound super cool!
Love it! You certainly are creative
Once my grandchild is born I am going to be looking to you for inspiration!
I am just about to make a stuffed toy using stuffing from a ripped cushion my friends was about to throw away.
I have also just made some outside lounger chair cushion covers for some curtains.
Thank you Pip. I bet your Grandbaby will inspire you to make lots of new and fun stuff and one day you too will make blog posts to show off your grandbabies happy creations. I can hardly wait. Sweet.
My grandson really enjoys crafts and has a talent for it too. I guess he takes after his Grandma. lol
I hope you’ll post a picture of the toy you made. I know it’ll be cute. That’s a great idea using the stuffing from your friend’s cushion and using curtains in such clever fashion. It’s practical and helps the Earth stay greener. Plus you get cool new stuff to enjoy.
Your grandson is very creative! Brings back memories of my son when he was that age.
Hi Dianna,
I bet your sons get their creativity from you. It’s sweet memories to think back on the fun crafts our children made.
cute and very creative!!!
Thank you PM.
Isn’t it wonderful how kids can think outside the box?(pun intended)
lol Granny. You made me physically laugh-out-loud. I love your pun and I agree. Thanks for the giggle.
Oh, my gosh! Thanks for the mention, E. C. Isn’t it wonderful how we are inspiring each other?! I love this post. And I love seeing what your grandson did. Yay!
You’re very welcome Ellen. I thank you for inspiring me.
