67° gray rainy skies

It’s rained all day and yet it’s a beautiful day to me!
Because…
Today marks 7 full months of
my husband & me being
smoke-free.

Quitting smoking has been a tough yet worthwhile journey. Up until last month I didn’t think I would ever stop thinking about smoking, sure the thoughts weren’t as often as in the beginning, but they were enough to make me uncomfortable and fear that I may leap off the wagon. Now I’m happy to tell you that finally I rarely think about cigarettes and when I do it’s in the context of being happy that we quit smoking.
I’m so thankful that my husband and I quit smoking together.
I believe that our being each others support has made the biggest
impact on keeping us motivated and continuing to be successful!
…
I added my husband and my totals together for cigarettes not smoked & money saved
We have been smoke free for 212 days.
We have saved $2120 by not smoking 8480 cigarettes.
Stopping smoking has added approximately 14 days 17 hours to each of our lives!
These stats are from a website ‘Smoke-Free Days Counter‘ that my friend Thea shared in her post ‘Smoke Free Incentives 151 Days and Counting’
Thank you Thea, I wish you continued success in staying smoke free.
I hope this month brings you sunshine & happiness..
…
E. C., congratulations to your and your husband both! I have a client who is really struggling with her efforts to quit smoking. Do you have any secrets to share about your success?
Thank you Ellen. My only suggestion to anyone trying to quit smoking is ‘never give up’. Over the past couple of years my husband and I tried to quit 3 times and like the old saying goes ’3 times charm’.
There is one thing more, but I’m not sure how you’d feel about it: something that might help to keep her inspired is to search for photos of throat cancers.
Early on and even now, I do that just to keep me reminded of the horrible realities that smoking can cause.
One more thing, tell her to start a journal, either online or off. Tell her to keep a record of all her feelings and as the days go by she can look back and see how far she’s come. I have a private blog and it’s been inspirational and big help to me.
I wish your client success in quitting smoking. I know that with your loving support that she will have a better chance at succeeding.
YAY!
Keep it up!
Tina
Thanks Tina.
I’m doing great and pray each that I’ll continue to be victorious.
wow congratulations on that acheivement. I just started a quit smoking thread in the off topic forums. Im trying to find 4 other bloggers who will quit with me at the same time I do. I havent been very good at quiting, so I think going public with buddies will be a good idea to try.
Thanks so much MM,
It’s a great idea to start buddy system support blogging for folks trying to quit. It’ll be another source of strength and support and inspiration to keep on keeping on.
I wish you all the success in the world.
Never give up trying to quit. It took my husband and I 3 tries over a couple of years before we were successful.
I hope you’ll keep us updated on your progress. My positive supportive thoughts are with you.
Excellent E.C.!! It’s a great feeling of accomplishment isn’t it?
It’s so great that you and your hubby were able to quit together! My hubby was supportive of my quitting but he doesn’t smoke so I still had to do it alone. Although I used my blog and readers for my personal support system.
Are you going to use your savings for anything in particular–perhaps a romantic weekend or something you’ve both wanted for awhile?
~Thea
Thank you Thea. It’s great that your husband never smoked. Blogging is a blessing for support systems and motivators. I think you’ve done a darn fine job of quitting alone. I’m proud of you and for you too. Keep up the great work!
Originally our intention was to take our savings and do something special… but then gas & grocery prices went up and messed up our plan. We’re thankful we quit in time to help lessen the strain of the rising prices. But it would have been nice if we could have held to our original plans.
I love the positive outlook of your blog! It’s something I strive for as well
Your picture captures a grey rainy day beautifully. We could sure use some of that rain in Iowa! I will also share in your victory over cigarettes, I’m into my fifth month now. Thanks for visiting me!
Hello Fdcarlso,
Welcome to my blog. I’m glad to see you here because I really enjoyed visiting your blog too. You’ve a nice variety of subjects both fun and interesting.
I’d be happy to send you some rain if I could figure out how to ship it to you. I hope you all get rain soon.
Congratulations on being quit 5 months. That’s great and a huge accomplishment. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for visiting and leaving me a happy comment. I hope you’ll visit again soon.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
E.C.
Good for you! My husband and I were smokers in college (well, I was a bummer; never actually bought a pack!), but gave it up and never went back.
Thanks C.E.
Good for you two too. Smoking is such an awful habit, I’m glad you & your husband didn’t continue to have it. Well done!
